Our Story

Over 40 Years of Scouting in Fairfax City

Troop 1887 has been building character, citizenship, and outdoor skills in the heart of Northern Virginia since 1980.

Our History

A Legacy That Endures

Troop 1887 was chartered in 1980 at American Legion Post 177 in Fairfax City, Virginia — and we have been meeting there ever since. What began as a small group of dedicated scouts and adult volunteers has grown into a thriving troop with a proud tradition of excellence in scouting.

Over the decades, Troop 1887 has produced Eagle Scouts, community leaders, and lifelong friends. Our scouts have hiked the Appalachian Trail, paddled the Shenandoah River, served their neighbors, and earned hundreds of merit badges. The troop's longevity is a testament to the commitment of our scouts, their families, and our volunteer adult leaders.

We are chartered by American Legion Post 177, a partnership that reflects our shared values of service, patriotism, and community. The Post has been our home for over four decades, and we are proud to carry on that tradition.

Our Foundation

What We Stand For

Everything we do is guided by the Scout Oath and Scout Law. These are not just words — they are the foundation of how our scouts live, lead, and serve.

Character

We develop honest, trustworthy, and morally straight young people who lead by example in their homes, schools, and communities.

Citizenship

We instill a love of country and a commitment to service. Our scouts give back to Fairfax City and beyond through community projects and Eagle Scout service projects.

Outdoor Skills

From camping and hiking to first aid and navigation, our scouts develop practical skills that build confidence and self-reliance.

Leadership

The troop is scout-led. Our young people hold leadership positions, plan activities, and run meetings — guided by experienced adult mentors.
