Adventure Is Always on the Schedule
From weekly meetings to high-adventure expeditions, Troop 1887 keeps scouts active, engaged, and growing all year long.
What We Do
Troop 1887 runs a full calendar of activities throughout the year — camping trips, merit badge workshops, community service projects, Court of Honor ceremonies, and more. Our program is planned by scouts through the Patrol Leaders' Council, with guidance from adult leaders. Below is a look at the types of activities we run each month and the recurring annual events that define the Troop 1887 experience.
Camping Trips
We camp year-round — typically one overnight trip per month. Destinations include state parks, BSA council camps, and backcountry sites throughout Virginia, West Virginia, and Maryland. Camping is where scouts put their skills to the test and build lasting friendships.
Hiking & High Adventure
Day hikes, backpacking trips, and high-adventure expeditions are a cornerstone of the Troop 1887 experience. Older scouts have the opportunity to attend national high-adventure bases including Philmont Scout Ranch, the Florida Sea Base, and the Northern Tier.
Merit Badge Workshops
The troop hosts merit badge workshops throughout the year, bringing in certified counselors to help scouts earn badges in everything from First Aid and Cooking to Citizenship and Personal Finance. Scouts also pursue merit badges independently with approved counselors.
Community Service
Service is at the heart of scouting. Troop 1887 participates in community service projects throughout the year — trail maintenance, food drives, park cleanups, and Eagle Scout service projects that leave a lasting mark on Fairfax City.
Every Week
Weekly Troop Meetings
The troop meets weekly at American Legion Post 177 in Fairfax City, Virginia. Meetings are scout-led and follow a structured agenda planned by the Senior Patrol Leader and Patrol Leaders' Council. A typical meeting includes skill instruction, patrol time, announcements, and planning for upcoming activities.
Meeting day, time, and any schedule changes are communicated to registered troop families. Contact us to learn more or to attend a meeting as a guest.
