There is a simple truth in scouting that I come back to every year: the scouts who grow the most are the ones who show up. Not just to meetings — but to the hard conversations, the rainy campouts, the service projects nobody is excited about.
It is easy to be a scout when the weather is perfect and the trail is smooth. The real test of character is what you do when things are uncomfortable. Do you find a reason to stay home, or do you lace up your boots and go anyway?
I have watched scouts earn Eagle who were not the most talented or the most naturally gifted. What they had was consistency. They showed up. Week after week, trip after trip, they were there — and over time, that presence compounded into something remarkable.
This week, I challenge every scout in Troop 1887 to think about one area of your scouting journey where you have been showing up halfway. Your advancement. Your patrol. Your service. Pick one thing and commit to showing up fully — and see what happens.
