We talk about Leave No Trace as a set of camping rules — pack out your trash, don't cut live trees, stay on the trail. And those things matter. But I think Leave No Trace is really about something deeper.
Leave No Trace is about humility. It is the recognition that the wilderness does not belong to us. We are guests. And good guests leave a place the way they found it — or better.
That same principle applies beyond the trail. Think about how you leave a classroom, a locker room, a campsite kitchen. Think about how you leave a conversation — did you leave the other person feeling heard and respected, or did you leave a mess?
The Outdoor Code asks us to be conservation-minded. I would expand that: be conservation-minded in everything. Conserve the environment. Conserve the trust of the people around you. Leave every place and every relationship better than you found it.
That is what a scout does.
